The crucial importance of oil quality
To achieve visible results, the choice of ingredients is fundamental. Coconut oil must be unrefined, cold-pressed, and organic (it should be solid at room temperature and have a light coconut scent). As for castor oil, it is absolutely essential that it be cold-pressed and hexane-free. Hexane is a toxic chemical solvent used to extract cheap oils and should absolutely be avoided in your facial treatment.
Variations depending on your skin type
Although the basic recipe suits most skin types for an overall anti-aging effect, it can be adjusted to fit your specific needs:
For deep wrinkles or very dry skin: Switch to a 50/50 ratio of coconut oil and castor oil. This higher concentration of castor oil provides an intensive treatment. Use only at night.
For oily or acne-prone skin: Contrary to popular belief, the skin produces excess sebum when it is dehydrated. Choose a blend of 70% coconut oil and 30% castor oil. Add an extra drop of vitamin E and a drop of tea tree essential oil for its antibacterial properties.
The 2-minute application technique
The timing of the application is just as important as the mixture itself. Forget the evening routine: the optimal time is in the morning, right after washing your face, on skin that is still slightly damp. The water helps the oils penetrate even more deeply.
Dosage: Take only 3 drops of the mixture. This is more than enough for the entire face.
Activation (15 seconds): Warm the drops between your palms. Slightly warm oils penetrate much better than cold oils.
The massage (90 seconds): Use gentle, upward circular movements, starting at the neck and moving toward the forehead. Pay special attention to the problem areas: around the eyes, the corners of the mouth, and the forehead. Let the oils do their work without rubbing hard.
Tapping (30 seconds): Use your fingertips to lightly tap the skin and work in any excess.
The advanced trick for tenfold results
Once a week, you can turn this routine into a real spa treatment. Gently warm your bottle by placing it in a bowl of warm (not hot) water for two minutes. Apply the mixture, then wrap your face in a warm, damp towel for five minutes. The heat opens your pores and allows maximum absorption of the active ingredients.
What results can you expect?
Consistency is key to this treatment. From the first week, the coconut oil will work on the surface: your skin will be visibly more hydrated and radiant. The real transformation happens between the second and fourth weeks, the time needed for the castor oil to stimulate the skin's natural collagen production deep inside.
Precautions: If you have sensitive skin, start by applying it every other day during the first week. Naturally, avoid this treatment if you are allergic to coconut. It is always recommended to do a patch test on the inside of the wrist 24 hours before the first application to the face. Finally, if you use strong treatments such as retinoids, apply them in the evening and save this oil blend for the morning; it also helps counteract the dryness caused by retinol.
